SKINCARE 101: THE DO'S AND DONT'S TO KNOW
By the time we settle into your 20’s, expect yourself to at least have a basic skincare routine in place. Whether that’s the CTM – Cleanse, tone and moisturize rule of thumb or having a 10-12 step Korean beauty routine. Skincare is holy.
But sometimes, no matter how sure you are of your routine, it helps to know that some may not exactly be conducive to what you set out to do. Sometimes, it’s best to go back to basics and know the simple do’s and dont’s. Like some ludicrous beauty myths, these skincare tips are just what you need to know to change and up your skincare game completely.
THESE 3 SKINCARE TIPS AND BASIC DO’S AND DONT’S ARE EASY AS THEY ARE EFFECTIVE
1. CLEANSING YOUR FACE
Do’s
Double cleanse is always a good idea! When removing makeup, just washing it off with a cleanser doesn’t do the trick completely. Remember to wipe it off prior to ensure you get off all the debris, dirt and makeup. That’ll truly cleanse your face properly for a good skincare regimen.
Don’ts
Busting this myth in public interest that face wipes absolutely do not work. In fact, they tend to be counter-productive. Makeup wipes tend to have drying out chemicals that not only strip your face of its natural oils (yes, face oils are good and keep the skin moisturized), but also severely shakes the pH balance. This means inflammation, sensitivity and a lot of other things you definitely do not want.
2. WASHING YOUR FACE
Do’s
We’re all for oral hygiene but remember – always brush before you wash your face. Some ingredients in your toothpaste are drying out and can cause dryness and itching. Moreover, while brushing, the bacteria in the paste-foam from your mouth touches your face and can lead to acne.
Dont’s
The golden rule of skincare – never use a dirty cloth to wipe your face, or wipe it too aggressively. Not only does this lead to possible bacteria forming acne from the dirty cloth, but can also lead to wrinkles and damage your skin.
3. POST WASH SKINCARE
Do’s

Using a mist is always a good plan. It’s super hydrating and moisturizing and makes sure that the product is evenly applied on your face without touching it. An effective skincare tip is to make sure you mist your face before you apply a serum for best results!
Dont’s
You know those trendy serum dropper videos all over Instagram where someone touches the dropper to their face while applying it? Yeah, BAD IDEA! There’s a ton of bacteria on our skin and faces at all times. Letting the dropper touch only means transfer of bacteria from one surface to the other and then goes into the bottle. That is not a recipe for success!
