  1. HAIR MASK FOR DANDRUFF AND ITCHY SCALPS

Simple Vegan Hair Masks for Luscious Locks

Itchy hair, do care? The irritation of a scratchy scalp can often come at the most inconvenient times, if the feeling itself wasn’t inconvenient enough. Dandruff also makes many of us wash our hair more often than we should, which may not exactly be ideal. But this DIY vegan hair mask works like magic. All you need is apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, water and aspirin. Yes, you read that right. And no, its not for a headache!

Ingredients:

– 1/4 cup water

– 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

– 6-8 drops of tea tree oil

– 1 Aspirin

Aspirin contains salicylic acid which means it works as a natural dandruff killer and flake soother. On the other hand, apple cider vinegar hinders the growth of yeast (a breeding agent for dandruff!), while tea tree oil is antibacterial and anti-fungal. Mix the 3 liquids in a clean spray bottle and swirl until settled. Crush the aspirin and add it to your mix. There  you go! Let your scalp soak this liquid for 30 minutes before shampooing it away.

2. HAIR MASK FOR GREASY AND OILY HAIR

While this is more driven due to hormonal problems and genetics, a hair mask never hurts. Especially one that involves only 3 ingredients to help you lessen the grease and grime.

Ingredients:

– 2-3 tablespoons yogurt

– 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel

– 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or a whole lemon wedge

Yogurt has amazing, and we mean amazing anti-bacterial properties (which also help with acne and skincare, hello!?). Where lemon acts as an acidic agent (be careful not to get it on your face), it works as a natural astringent and cleanser for your scalp, and aloe vera aids in soothing it. Mix all the ingredients and apply it on damp hair. Let it sit for 15 minutes and rinse and shampoo with a light, clear shampoo after.

3. HAIR MASK FOR DRY HAIR

Believe us when we say that apple cider vinegar is the magic elixir you need in your pantry. It’s also beneficial for those who deal with a dry and itchy scalp on the daily by gently dissolving product buildup, soothing itchiness, and balancing out the scalp’s pH levels.

Ingredients:

– 2 tablespoons coconut oil

– 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel

– 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Start by heating the oil for up to 45 seconds. Don’t heat it too long which could burn your scalp when applied. Bring the ingredients together and work it through your scalp, down to your tips. Completely saturate your hair in it, let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing and shampooing away to stress-free hair.

4. HAIR MASK FOR SHINY, SOFT HAIR

Nothing gets us shiny, bright-eyed and purring like a happy cat, quite like shiny and soft hair. This hair mask brings just that!

Ingredients:

1 ripe avocado

– 1 tablespoon of argan oil or olive oil

– 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel

– 1/8 cup coconut milk or almond milk

Avocados contain natural fatty acids that seal in moisture in your hair when applied. Aloe Vera is also a natural humectant, which means it absorbs moisture from the air and lets it into your hair. These ingredients help in injecting extra life in your hair when they feel dull, lifeless and have lost their shine. Depending on your hair type, pick olive oil for thicker, coarser hair and argan oil for finer or colour-treated hair. Begin by blending or smushing all the ingredients together. Apply throughout – from scalp to tips and everything in between! Cling wrap for 30 minutes and wash. Hello silky-haired, beauty!

5. HAIR MASK FOR FRIZZY AND CURLY HAIR

WE <3 CURLS! While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a bit of volume, it often is a sign of dryness and needs moisture STAT. The cure-all for it? Oil. Just oil. Both olive and coconut oil are the heaviest of the oils, but they’re also the most moisturizing, so try this mask once a week for max definition and hydration, using one of the two.

Ingredients:

– 2 Coconut oil or olive oil

– 1 Almond oil

– 2-3 capsules of Vitamin E oil

Almond oil is super light and good for your hair, as is Vitamin E. Simply mix the oils and heat it up. Let it cool down, oil you hair – right from scalp to tips and let it rest for 30 minutes before washing it off. Use a moisturizing clear shampoo.

These hair masks are an ultra-moisturizing, deep conditioning hair treatment, usually used once a week, to help battle dry, brittle, or damaged hair. Like a facial mask, it’s meant to be applied and then allowed to soak before washing out. Not only are they an inexpensive way to pamper yourself but it will also leave your hair looking as amazing as you feel! Wins all around!
